The next day, having made sure we had our documents, the dog, and water, we set off westward. There wasn’t much „west” left, though—our westward journey would end at Pointe de Penmarc’h; beyond that, we’d either have to make a sharp turn north or end up as a meal for Atlantic cod. The route from Guilvinec to Pointe de Penmarc’h is only about seven kilometers, so there was no need to rush. The narrow roads of southern Finistère are magnificent—charming cottages surrounded by greenery and draped in Virginia creeper, boasting the world’s largest hydrangeas (I promise to say more about the houses later), along with medieval chapels and Celtic crosses weathered by wind and rain. And the roads were nearly empty, as if no one drove here at all.

On the way, we pass the village of Kerity, home to a tiny church with a single side aisle (there are usually two)—a medieval structure, naturally. We arrive in St. Pierre a few minutes later. We are greeted by the overpowering stench of seaweed drying on the exposed sand; the tide is well out, and the boats and small vessels look as though they have been abandoned.
Do St Pierre dojeżdżamy kilka minut później.

It’s hard to believe, but we are actually looking at the ocean floor. It’s great that no one throws shopping carts, broken beer bottles etc into the water. Those little white specks are small birds darting across the sand and flying very low over the water. On the horizon, you can see the next stop on our journey: the d’Eckmühl Lighthouse. The lighthouse is quite far from Saint-Pierre—about two kilometers away. It was built in 1897 thanks to the generosity of the Prince d’Eckmühl. Like almost everything else in the area, it was constructed from granite, which is found literally everywhere.

It is reached by 307 steps—though I lost count after 128. The building at the foot of the lighthouse belongs to the Papa Poydenot Association, an organization of sea rescuers. This building also houses a maritime rescue museum, which is free to visit.
INFO: climbing the lighthouse costs 2 euros /wejście na latarnię kosztuje 2 Euro.

On the other side, there is a small market square where a market is held during the season on Mondays from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM.
The next stop is… our camera battery ran out.Następny przystanek to … wyczerpała nam się bateria w aparacie.
